Space pic of the day

Roamy here. I found this in an old requirements document for Apollo and just thought it was interesting. I don’t have much to do with ergonomic design, but I’m glad someone was thinking about how an astronaut has to move. I wonder how much of this was wishful thinking, and I also wonder how similar newer designs might be.

  1. Looking at the middle figure, AFAIK, I don’t think any of the NASA footage shot on the moon show any astronauts using that degree of movement in the legs or hips. Just an observation.

    1. Trevor, that’s my feeling, too. There’s also a similar drawing for a hard suit in the document, so I think at that point in time, they hadn’t settled on a design yet. Might as well try for the most mobility.
