Happy Birthday to the Grumman A-6 Intruder

On this day in 1960, the first flight of the then A2F-1 Intruder marked the beginning of 34 years of excellence in carrier all weather medium attack.

  1. Always thought it was surprisingly good looking airplane for how ugly it was. As usual when you post on A6s, I try to find a picture of the painting “six packs for Quaddafi” (however you spell it), but cannot.

  2. Miss the distinctive sounds of them. Touch and gos all night from daguallo (spelled wrong probably)bay.

    1. You’re describing the A-6F, which had all new electronics, and a pair of non-afterburning F404 engines. Also added an extra stores station on each wing to carry AMRAAM.
