CDR Salamander: Pro Tip: Millenials are not your problem, they are your best asset

There is something in the trans-generational water and it is rather fetid, and I don’t much care for it. I’m not sure why – but it seems that in the mad grasping for answers, some people are looking to blame using the cheap grace of trendy pop-sociology.

In the specific; the present target as the scapegoat for the problems we face seems to be not just the most innocent, but in fact the victim – the Millenials.

We share Matt Hipple’s take on the Millenials, from a Millenial. Here’s CDR Sal’s take, as a Gen X’er. You’ll be shocked to learn a more senior officer also thinks that good leadership is important when dealing with subordinates, even those damn kids.

  1. We reap the PC whirlwind. History offers myriad examples of how success is achieved. A lot of this history is still within living memory of my generation. When you can clearly establish victory in a conflict, you will eventually have fewer conflicts. When you organization and institutions loose sight of their purpose (i.e. victory over the enemy – two words seldom used today) they will devolve to the malaise that has now become so apparent that even gen-x-ers recognize the perils.

Bid them achieve me and then sell my bones.
Good God, why should they mock poor fellows thus?
