Friday Links and Stuff

Nice day to go flying:

Russia gets smacked by a meteor. 900 or so injured, mostly by flying glass from the sonic boom. No word yet on the size of the meteor.

There are claims that Russian Air Defense shot down the meteor. Color me dubious.

The VFW is annoyed with the drone medal.

Over the last decade, the Pentagon has had a couple programs touting the wonders of modern lighter than air craft as long endurance sensor platforms. So they spent about half a billion on the program. Then cancelled it after one flight.

Ender’s Game and Maneuver Warfare.

A good read, especially for you non-doctrine types.

  1. Ender’s game is a decent book. I read the original short story in one of Jerry Pournelle’s anthologies. The book was written from the short story. Both are a good read.

Pournelle’s Mercenary Trilogy was praised by many an Army Officer as a resource for LIC. It’s also a good read (or rollicking good yarn as Pournelle uses the term). It was combined into one volume titled “The Prince” I found a hard bound copy in a used bookstore a few years back.
