XBrad’s Birthday!

Our gracious host has a birthday today.   That is so cool.   It is the quintessential warrior birthday.  25 October.

I spose I have The Battle of Newmarket, which was one hundred years to the day before I was born, 15 May 1864.    But XBRAD gets:

  • Agincourt, 1415
  • Balaclava,  (Charge of the Light Brigade) 1854
  • Mine Creek, 1864
  • Russian Revolution, 1917
  • El Alamein, 1942
  • Santa Cruz (beginning) 1942
  • Samar/Leyte Gulf 1944
  • Grenada, 1983

That is a lotta military history, some of it momentous.  He appreciates it, at least.  It would be maddening if he didn’t, like the six-foot seven kid who “didn’t like basketball”.

  1. Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars
And say, “These wounds I had on Crispin’s day.”

Happy birthday, Brad. May you have many more….

    1. I’ve just been commenting irregularly since I had surgery back on August 24th. I had my Android tablet in the hospital with the intention of keeping up with the gang here, but it crashed while it was doing a firmware update the 3rd day in stir and it won’t boot anymore, alas.

While I am healing, Things are going slow, and my energy levels are low. My appetite was hit as well and most of the time I don’t feel like eating. I eat because I know I have to, but not eating anything like I was. I’ve lost 10 pounds since surgery, but I still have a ways to go to reach my desired weight of 170 pounds (45 pounds to be exact) but will get back on that road when the Doctor says I can start bending again. Then I can seriously work on my fitness and get back to fighting weight again.

I am back at work full time, but my normal work is not exactly high energy. At the point of my career where I am now, I’m far more valuable at the desk with only occasional forays to the field. I hate that, particularly this time of year. I love being out in the fall.

Did I say I love being out in the fall? It’s a frustration that I can’t get out much. But, I do plan on taking a bit of a hike this Saturday on teh train from Cherokee to the Oconoluftee Vistors center in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s something I need to do for my rehab as well, so it fits. I have to wear a back brace that I really, really hate, but thems the breaks. I intend to be a good boy so I can heal properly. I have no desire to re-opened for a revision. MY arhtritic left wrist and right shoulder hate that I can’t take Ibuprofen, other NSAIDS, or Prednisone as I have to have the inflammatory response for the bone grafts to take. Things are a bit tough in that regard. Everything else is going, if slowly.

I’ve been warned by a woman that had less done than I did, that it will take about a year to recover completely.

  2. Thanks for all the good wishes for my B’day. It’s been an excellent day, and sharing it with you has been an special treat.
