A Study in Leadership

Compare and contrast:

Then.

and

Now.

…..

I’m not picking on the Navy… much. We used to get occasional similar missives from Brigade or Division, though usually via the Command Sergeant Major. Quit wearing Air Force gloves, stop and salute during colors, be timely and professional about saluting.

My personal experience* was usually that the combat arms units were far better about attending to those small details that lend themselves to unit discipline, and serve as markers of esprit de corps.

*Except the Air Force gloves thing. I was always bad about having my hands in my pockets.

  1. This is bad. If CNSL has to send this out in a message the Atlantic Fleet is is in a lot of trouble. I guess today’s shipboard routine is nothing like I lived through in the past. And yet he’s saying do all the things we did without being told.
