"I may disagree with what you say….

…but I will defend with my life your right to say it.”

…so I will use the bully pulpit of elected office to bring the power of the government to bear in order to persecute you for having those views and stating them publicly.”

Brought to you by the One Acceptable Viewpoint Coalition.  Mike Mullen, Chair.

Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty puts a shot in the X-ring:

“Now you have the police power of government intimidating and threatening people, being used to intimidate and threaten people, based on their free speech rights and their religious views,” Pawlenty said Saturday of city officials’ objections to president Dan Cathy’s public disavowal of gay marriage.  “I mean it’s chilling.  I mean it’s stunning, it is jaw-dropping.  And so I think strong people who see this need to stand up and say no we don’t do that in the United States.”

A government-sponsored campaign to crush dissenting opinion should raise the hairs on the backs of all of our necks.   Or, have years of indoctrination in public schools, and at our colleges and universities and Hollywood so narrowed our tolerance of anything but the most progressive/left of viewpoints, that the backlash against free expression by an American Citizen is expected and accepted?

Criticism of a viewpoint by private citizens or organizations is perfectly acceptable.  When it is an elected or appointed official acting in his/her capacity that behaves as Boston’s Mayor Menino and Chicago’s Emanuel have, it is a violation of the First Amendment.

With the de facto erosion of free speech in such a way, along with the attacks on private gun ownership, warrantless wiretaps, surveillance drones, assassination without criminal charge, the Federal immigration lawsuits, and the stifling effects of Obamacare, we can count the First, Second, Fourth, Sixth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments as being threatened.  Pretty soon we will be able to fit the Bill of Rights on one side of a 3×5 index card.

  1. The time has come to whip these bastards right out of their boots.

Vote in November, make certain EVERYONE you know votes in November.

To hell with guy fawkes . . . we must remember General George Washington
and all of the Founding Fathers in November.

“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I WON’T!”
    – GEN George S. Patton

  2. I am a strict Taftian when it comes to the 1rst Amendment. William Howard Taft, who was much prouder of having been Chief Justice of the SCOTUS that he was of having been President, once said, ” We must afford the most proection to the speech we find most offensive, for if that is banned, where will it stop?”. I am alarmed at how little value that viewpoint is given by the Progressives.

  3. Mark Steyn said it best a few days ago. Ask these people: “Just who the hell do you think you are?” And repeat it often.

  4. Frankly I think it’s time to send the 101st in to places like Chicago, New York, and Boston to restore and protect people’s civil rights.

    1. I would volunteer for that mission, Mr.Gauch . . .

“All right, Clanton, you called down the thunder, well now you got it . . . I see a red sash, I KILL the man wearing it! So run you cur, RUN! Tell all the other curs the law is coming. You tell them I’M comin’, and hell’s comin’ with me, you hear? Hell’s comin’ with me!”
