Happy Easter!

He closed the yawning gates of hell;
The bars from heaven’s high portals fell;
Let hymns of praise His triumphs tell!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

And a bit of cuteness, stolen from Ace of Spades:

  1. Rabbits, chicks, eggs and new grass were symbols associated with the fertility goddess Ishtar / Astarte / Ashtoreth. I’ve always been at a loss to explain how this has any relation to Jesus coming back from the grave. They didn’t even bother to try and change the name like they did with Saturnalia and Lupercalia.

    But yeah, those puppies are a serious overload of cuteness. My head almost exploded watching them. 🙂

    1. It’s why I put the reason for the season first. New life, perhaps? All I know is that the “Easter tree”, plastic eggs hung with fishing line from tree branches, looks really tacky, and I refuse to do it.

  2. Passover often coincides with the feast of Ishtar. Eoaster was one of the pagan holidays that was co-opted by the Old Catholic Church (which is not the same as the Roman Catholic Church which evolved out of that). I personally don’t do the Easter stuff. We do celebrate the resurrection today, however, as it is the most important of the uniquely Christian Holy Days.
