Ground Resonance

Helicopters are always trying to kill you. Not just Apaches zapping Talibani insurgents. I mean your own helicopter.

This video has been making the rounds lately. Ground resonance caused the chopper to literally shake itself apart (I’ll leave it for a fling-winger to show up and actually describe what ground resonance is).

So, a quick look at youtube also found some more instances of testing to destruction.

As a lightfighter, I always appreciated a chopper ride instead of walking. As a mech guy, later on, I’ve had Bradleys try to shake me apart, but never tried to shake themselves apart.

  1. Okay, I give up. What the hell is GROUND RESONANCE? Aren’t all airframes certified to have acceptable harmonics at any speed, any attitude, any configuration?
