USS Midway – VA-25 Toilet Bomb

In October 1965, CDR Clarence W. Stoddard, Jr.,  Executive Officer of VA-25 “Fist of the Fleet”, flying an A-1H Skyraider, NE/572 “Paper Tiger II” from Carrier Air Wing Two aboard USS Midway carried a special bomb to the North Vietnamese in commemoration of the 6-millionth pound of ordnance dropped. This bomb was unique because of the type… it was a toilet!

I was a little stunned when Roamy told me she didn’t recall what the A-1 Skyraider was. Normally, she’s pretty decent at aircraft recognition.

I asked her, “How can you not know the only plane to drop a toilet in combat?”

  1. Sitting in a hotel room in Houston, Texas, chatting with a fellow military aviation vet, being arrogant and chock full o’chutspa, I offer up that I once was the proud recipient of a glorious Lex H/T, many moon ago, in regards to a very historical moment, (as is common in military aviation) that barely didn’t kill anyone at all… The dedicated dropping of a near Biological code-name “Sani-Flush” by then VA-25. Tacking on the heat, I do a quick internet search and find out, And All. So here’s your gentle link unto Lex, and myself, now, so many years ago, and just a few years ago.
