CDR Salamander: A Decade Late, but We’ll Take Them

Well before AFG we knew we needed these – I still remember people saying, “It would be nice to have a few OV-10s around … ”

From the start of the march from Camp Rhino, we doubly knew we needed this capability.

Better late than never. Of course, until there’s a couple squadrons worth on the ramp, I’m skeptical that the fast jet community won’t strive to kill them.

  1. While I don’t disagree that some of these, or at least something like these, are needed in the inventory, my complaint is we keep sending them to the wrong service branch. Give six squadrons to the Army. We’ll let the Navy borrow them when needed. (After all, it is a pretty safe bet that if the Navy needs them for COIN, the Army is already at the party.) The Army will take care of those birds. It’s time to shelve Johnson-McConnell anyway.
