A new crop of super foods could soon hit the front lines to give soldiers a combat edge — without tasting like turpentine.

As soon as next spring, energy gel bolstered with extra fats and caffeinated chocolate pudding may go to outposts for soldiers to slurp on the move.

Mmmm… Pudding!

Though, in my day, if we wanted caffeine, we just ripped open a packet of instant coffee and ate it.

  1. I’m still trying to come up with a decent recipe for homemade caffienated jerky. For now I just have to let my regular old jerky soak in my coffee cup before I start gnawing on it. There is a commercial product out and about. http://www.perkyjerky.com/ It’s ok. But then I am a jerky snob.

  2. I used the instant coffee like dip in the field. Those tobacco chewers know a thing or two about getting chemicals into the bloodstream.
