Space roundup

Early this morning, Don Pettit, Oleg Kononenko, and Andre Kuipers were launched on the Soyuz TMA-03M. They should arrive at the International Space Station Friday.

Don Pettit was part of ISS Expedition 6 from November 2002 to May 2003 and made a name for himself with his Space Chronicles and Saturday Morning Science videos. I’m hoping he will have time to do more of these and in better quality. (Kind of quaint, having the option of 28K or 56K modem download. How things have changed in less than a decade.)

Another video for you, a holiday message from Dan Burbank, commander of Expedition 30.

Last but not least, Orion had a successful parachute test at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, and NASA just released this photo of the two-chute test, as opposed to three.

Hope it’s ready for people soon.
