Roamy here. In case you haven’t seen it, here’s photos of the asteroid YU55 approaching Earth.
In other news, the Russians are still having trouble with their rockets. (Story here, but it’s ABC with an autostart video, which I find annoying.) Yesterday, the Phobos-Grunt mission lifted off from Baikonur, but the upper stage failed to ignite. It’s currently in a low elliptical orbit. Russian mission controllers are trying to restore communication to the spacecraft and command the upper stage to ignite. If they can’t do it soon, Mars will be too far away for the spacecraft to get there with its fixed amount of fuel. If they can’t get the upper stage to ignite at all, the spacecraft will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere and burn up in mid- to late December.
