Roamy here.  Via Instapundit, astronaut Ron Garan captured a Perseid meteor entering Earth’s atmosphere.

Meteoroids are a serious hazard for anything in space, with the added trouble of space debris in Earth orbit.  If the space debris is large enough to track, then you can maneuver out of the way; most are small particles that just make little pits.  Hard to maneuver out of the way of a meteor shower, though.  For some satellites, they can turn or otherwise minimize the exposed area, since the meteors are coming from a known direction.
