Our buddy Andy reminded us that today is the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the M1911 pistol by the U.S. Army.
I shot the M1911A1 in government service, and owned variants of it in private life.
It may not be the only choice in pistols, but if it IS your only pistol, you’ve made a wise choice.
Truly a thing of beauty.
I’ve had a few … I miss them all.
1914 Colt, US Gov’t Property
Kimber Stainless Classic LE
Sig-Sauer GSR1911
*sigh*
Got a 92FS right now, and it’s nice … but it ain’t a 1911.
They need to bring it back. Delta Force, IIRC, adopted a mod. The SEALs adopted the HK USP in .45. I’m not a fan of the 9mm and haven’t been since I read the study the Army did in 1905 that resulted in the 1911. Masaad Ayoob feels the 9mm is more effective, but I have serious doubts.
XBTC,

Simply the greatest handgun ever made. This nation was blessed with JM Browning.
I have a Series 70/MK4. First handgun I ever bought, back in 1982.
