By all means, enjoy this spring day, have a BBQ, and gather with friends and family. Heck, even go to a sale at the store.
But please take a moment to remember the purpose of this day, set aside for those Americans, who having agreed to serve this great nation, gave the last full measure of devotion.
I spent my day building something. Those who died did so in the pursuit of the freedom to do just that.
I looosed my horses in the big pasture and watched them graze, It cam a small rain and afterwards there was a double rainbow, pretty as a picture as a free man on a Memorial day.
Thanks guys, for the chance!
God Bless them all. I only hope that, when my life is finished, that I will have lived it in a manner worthy of their sacrifice. I often question why it was that I survived, when my friends did not. Some times it overwhelms me that I got to carry on and they didn’t. But I keep them in my heart, and hope that, in the end, it all balances out.
God Bless them all, and their families.
